On November 13th, Carinya held its 2024 Annual General Meeting, marking a year of growth, resilience, and strong community partnerships. With staff, residents, and community supporters in attendance, the evening was an opportunity to celebrate Carinya’s accomplishments and to set sights on an exciting future. Key speakers President Rod Abbott, Treasurer Glen Barrett, and CEO Cindy Nicholas provided insights into Carinya's strategic direction, financial health, and plans for further strengthening the organisation.
President’s Address: Strategic Planning and Stronger Standards
President Rod Abbott opened the evening with a reflection on Carinya’s strategic achievements, outlining plans to maintain accreditation and comply with the upcoming strengthened standards. Rod emphasised Carinya’s commitment to high-quality care and its role as a trusted care provider in the community. He also highlighted the importance of strategic planning as the organisation looks to the future, ensuring that Carinya is well-prepared for changes and opportunities in aged care.
Financial Overview: A Strong Financial Position
Treasurer Glen Barrett provided an overview of Carinya’s financial performance, showcasing a robust year-end result with a net profit of $873,409. This healthy financial position not only reflects prudent management but also paves the way for reinvesting in resources and amenities to improve residents’ quality of life and enhance Carinya's facilities. Glen’s report underscored the strength of Carinya’s financial foundation, ensuring stability and the ability to continue providing excellent care.
CEO’s Vision: Aiming to Strengthen the Workforce
CEO Cindy Nicholas shared an inspiring vision for Carinya’s future, focusing on enhancing workforce management through improved rostering systems and expanding recruitment efforts. Cindy also gave a behind-the-scenes look at the work that makes Carinya a wonderful place for both staff and residents, mentioning the various celebrations and events that enrich the Carinya experience—from NAIDOC and Pride Week celebrations to team challenges and the recent breast cancer fundraising luncheon. These initiatives foster a sense of belonging and pride within Carinya, reinforcing its reputation as an inclusive and vibrant community.
Community Support and Generous Contributions
Rod expressed his gratitude for the incredible community support that has sustained Carinya. In particular, he thanked the community groups, individual donors, and local farmers who contributed to the “Raise a Calf” fundraiser, which brought in an impressive $40,019 this year. Their contributions make a tangible difference in the lives of residents, and Carinya is truly grateful for their generosity and dedication.
The Greenhills Benevolent Society, represented by Sharon and Joy, attended the meeting and once again extended a generous donation. Rod thanked Greenhills for their unwavering support over the years, which has been invaluable to Carinya’s mission.
Election of New Committee Members
The AGM also saw the election of Carinya’s Board of Management. This year’s election was hosted by Mr. Max Hall, who declared all positions vacant. The following nominations were made and accepted:
