Deb Watson - General Committee

Deb Watson, general committee member since 2018. Deb grew up in the Loch Poowong area and then lived in Melbourne and overseas before moving a stone’s throw from the family farm after having children. For the past twelve years Deb has led the Australian team of an international training and consultancy group, Helen Sanderson Associates (H S A).   H S A supports individuals, organisations and communities to use person-centred practices to ensure that everyone is able to have positive control in their own lives, no matter what their circumstances may be. Deb particularly loves providing support to people who have communication difficulties, and those who assert their needs in ways that systems and services often find challenging.

In 2020, Deb will be embarking on a Midwifing Death Correspondence Course in an effort to learn more about how to best support people with death and dying. In her committee role, Deb’s primary contributions lie in the areas of personalised supports, organisational growth based on feedback from residents and families, and any creative ways to ensure that Carinya is facilitating the best possible lives for residents and working environments for staff.

Deb has two young boys, two horses, two dogs, two ducks and no intentions of any other pairs of animals. She’s a keen gardener, and like her grandmother before her, she happily loses track of time while pottering in the garden. Deb loves chocolate a little bit too much, and in rare moments when she’s not running around after small boys and animals, or reading for work, she loves reading contemporary literature, along with the occasional classic.
